Joel Corey will take on the midfield assistant coach role for the 2023 AFL season, stepping into the position vacated by Josh Carr.
The three-time premiership Cat has been a development coach at Fremantle for the past two seasons and has been instrumental in the improvement of Fremantle’s young midfield group.
Ruckman Sean Darcy credited Corey for his 2021 Doig Medal winning season, with Corey always on hand to help players eager to put in extra hours on the training track.
A former Fremantle and Port Adelaide player and coach, Carr will return to Adelaide for family reasons after three years as Fremantle’s midfield assistant coach.
Executive General Manager of Football Peter Bell congratulated Corey on the new role and thanked Carr for his service.
“We are excited to announce Joel Corey as our midfield assistant coach from 2023,” Bell said.
“Joel is an incredibly popular member of our coaching group thanks to the genuine care he has for our players’ development.
“He has an impressive resume as both a player and coach, and the group benefit greatly from his guidance as a three-time premiership player.
“We also wish Josh all the best as he returns to Adelaide.
“With his wife Karolina’s family based in South Australia, we fully understand and support the decision they have made as a family.
“Josh has been a great servant for the Club both as a player and coach and the impact he has had on our midfield group in particular will be felt for years to come.”
