Do you feel empowered that you actually have the people that can get the job done?
Yes, and that was the message, we’re disappointed but proud of the efforts. We’ve got people out at the moment, but we still haven’t performed anywhere near like we should have the last two weeks against Brisbane and Geelong. Tonight was a big step in the right direction.

Mim Strom seemed to have an important role tonight in the ruck and defence, how much work did she put into preparing for that?
She was just playing her normal role in the ruck and then she works behind the ball when she can. We’re a bit short in the backline at the moment without Cuthbertson there but I thought Emma O’Driscoll was outstanding down back in the role she played. Mim always works back and helps out, she knew we were a bit short down there and she did that really well.

Aine Tighe up front seemed to be the spark in that first quarter?
Yes she was, I think she was pretty disappointed at the moment that she didn’t have the impact that she would’ve liked in the second half. She really looks dangerous there, she’s tall and gets a lot of attention obviously so the marks and free kicks will come and I think she’ll kick a bag at some stage this year.

It seemed the Dogs got a lot of those contested marking chains down the field, how do you combat that?
It’s a difficult part because we knew we were shorter than they were. We just needed a couple of efforts, we saw Sarah Verrier went back and put on a really good effort to bring a ball to ground, we probably needed a few more like that in that situation. If we thought we could get the ball to ground, we could outrun them but even in that last passage of play there was 1 minute and 40 seconds to go and they just controlled it with contested marks and we needed to change that a bit.

Sarah Verrier has been playing a bit more on the wing, is she one of those people that can help with that transition forward?
Absolutely that’s what we went with, we’ve been struggling to get inside 50’s and the penetration through there and that was what we decided today that we’d do that and get her up on the wing, sacrificing a really good player down back. I always thought that she’d end up on the wing or as an inside mid but as she builds her tank, which she’s been doing, tonight was as good a time as any and I think she showed a fair bit.

Jessica Low back obviously allows you to make that change?
Yes, definitely. That was the key to having her back in the side. We’d also like Emma O’Driscoll forward, we trained her a lot this year but just where we’re at at the moment we can’t do that either. Those options are limited but Jessica Low coming back into the side helped Verrier get to the wing and she had some nice touches for us.

Any injuries?
No, thankfully. We’re looking forward to next week hopefully we get one or two back as well and we can build from there.
