Wednesday evening marked the Fremantle Dockers’ annual Player Sponsor Dinner at Bathers Beach House in Fremantle.
For some players and sponsors their relationship stems further than the bounds of the club. Carol and Wayne Taborda, of Taborda Contracting, are long time sponsors of Zac Dawson and have developed a special relationship with the defender.
“We love Zac. He is very much a part of the family,” said Carol.
“We speak on a regular basis and Zac’s wife, Sheena sends photos of their beautiful daughter,” she said.
The Taborda’s have also welcomed a new player to their list this year, sponsoring Connor Blakely. Blakely was quick to impress the Taborda’s, who look forward to watching the relationship grow.
The player sponsor program was established in 2004 and allows supporters and businesses the opportunity to engage with the inner sanctum of the club, while providing the players with valuable opportunities to network.
At the event, players and sponsors were lucky enough to be joined by an array of special guests. Mark Readings hosted the evening and interviewed senior players Nat Fyfe, Matthew Pavlich, Lee Spurr, Michael Walters and Aaron Sandilands.

Nat Fyfe shared with guests his experience of sitting in the coaches’ box during the Richmond game at Domain Stadium in round 9.
“It was a fantastic experience. I have been sworn to a code of silence as to what was said, but I’ll be back in there this weekend,” he said.
The night was not soley focused on football, with Fremantle local and star of TV’s ‘Kath & Kim’ Peter Rowsthorn entertaining guests. Rowsthorn was excited to take a selfie with Freo favourite Michael Walters.
Fremantle CEO Steve Rosich described the evening as an important event on the club’s calendar.
“Tonight is a great opportunity for players to mingle and develop their networks outside the walls of the football club” he said.
“It is also a fantastic occasion for key stakeholders to engage with our football club.”
