After being outmatched by Melbourne on Friday night at Optus Stadium, the Fremantle playing group came together to discuss how they want to approach the final three games of the season with the Club pushing for a return to finals.

Leader Caleb Serong said the group was clearly disappointed by the 46-point loss with a top four spot on the line, leaving Freo now in a battle to earn a home final and Melbourne entrenched in the top two.

Serong said the group knows they need to lift across the board.

“We need to get back to our best footy and that starts with our role and our contest,” Serong said.

“I guess at the moment, we’re not playing our role to the best of our abilities and that’s what we were doing at the beginning of the year with 22 or 23 contributors every week. At the moment unfortunately, we’re not doing that and that’s what’s letting us down.

“We’ve got no doubt we can turn it around, we’ve just got to get back to our role and focus on that.”

Serong said there was a hunger to not dwell on any negative commentary and remain focused on the task at hand with another tough test next Saturday night against the Western Bulldogs at Marvel Stadium.

“(The message post game was) to stay together. We’ve had a couple of interesting weeks and people can write you off,” Serong said.

“We just need to stay together. We go through wins and losses together and throw our arms around each other.

“Next week is a massive game, this time of year every game is huge.

“We’ll regroup take and couple of days to lick our wounds and we’ll be ready to go again next week.”

Fremantle brought back the 3D Anchor jumper for their retro round clash and Serong loved how the fans embraced the week.

“It was amazing, we love the retro rounds. The 3D anchor tonight was awesome,” Serong said.

“The box on the back around the number was pretty sick as well. We loved it."
