Clive Waterhouse and Alex Pearce model Fremantle's 3D Anchor retro jumper

With Fremantle bringing back their infamous 3D anchor jumper for this Friday’s clash against Melbourne at Optus Stadium, Freo players from the past have taken the chance to reflect on their favourite memories from that era.

As well as being the jumper Fremantle wore for their maiden Western Derby victory, it’s also the strip Tony Modra wore when kicking a club record 10 goals against Melbourne in 1999.

Fan favourite Clive Waterhouse admitted he wasn’t a fan of the jumper at the time.

“Seeing this jumper come back has brought back some great memories, even though I didn’t really like the jumper!” Waterhouse said.

“But it brought back some great memories of 1999, because that’s the jumper we wore when we first beat the Eagles. We had Mods running around and Brad Wira doing the aeroplane when he kicked the goal in the last quarter.

“They’re the memories that come back into my mind straight away.”

Like Waterhouse, Jason Norrish's favourite memory in the jumper was from the Western Derby, a game where he had 32 disposals.

“It’s probably not my favourite, I liked the original away strip which was green. The old wool ones which weren’t that comfortable,” Norrish told SEN WA.

“I remember we went into the Derby as underdogs and hadn’t won one before. We ended up winning quite easily in the end and it was quite one sided. It was great fun and we had a huge night!”

Norrish said he still follows Fremantle and has been loving the team’s form so far this year.

“At the start of the year I was hoping Freo could squeeze into the bottom of the top eight, but certainly the way they’re playing at the moment, they’ve been really impressive,” Norrish said.

“I go to all the games with my family and it’s really good fun to watch, it’s entertaining and it’s all the things you want from the side, they’re winning games, playing well, they’ve got a good structure.

“There’s some difficult games coming up, I haven’t booked my flights just yet but I hope it’s imminent. A top four finish would be a huge effort and paves the way for an easier road in the finals.”
