Fremantle captain Nat Fyfe is set to make his return to football next week at either AFL or WAFL level, according to senior coach Justin Longmuir.

The two-time Brownlow Medallist is yet to play this season due to a back injury and is scheduled to return to AFL level in one to two weeks.

It means Fyfe could play as early as Fremantle's round 12 clash against Brisbane.

If he doesn't feature at AFL level, Longmuir said Fyfe would instead take on a different Lions side for Peel against Subiaco on 4 June at Leederville Oval.

“We will definitely see him next week pending him getting through a couple of good weeks of training,” Longmuir told 7NEWS.

“Where he plays next week, we will decide next week.

“If he gets through with flying colours this week, we will consider him at both levels.”

Longmuir said Fremantle need to find ways to adapt to difficult conditions after back-to-back losses in the wet against Gold Coast and Collingwood.

“We’ve done a bit of a deep dive into our form over the last couple of weeks, and really the messaging is about what we need to do to get back to our best footy because our best footy is really strong,” Longmuir said.

“To win AFL games, you need to score more than 30 or 40 points, so there’s a few things we will look to do next time we confront those conditions.”
