In an ominous warning to the rest of the competition, Fremantle senior coach Ross Lyon says star midfielder Nat Fyfe can get better this year.

Speaking to 6PR’s Sports Today, Lyon said every player could improve, including Fyfe.

The strong midfielder has received 50 AFL Coaches Association votes from a possible 60 this season and is blitzing the competition.

“Nathan is always working on his game,” he said.

“He’s a very good young player.”

Fyfe bagged 27 touches in Freo’s 28-point win over Essendon at Domain Stadium on Saturday night but was inaccurate in front of goal, kicking two behinds.

“Typically he’s a good shot for goal but in the last couple of weeks he’s missed a couple, so he’ll work on that,” Lyon said.

“His stoppage work is clearly better than last year, he had six centre clearances on the weekend.”

Lyon said Fyfe had researched how the games best clearance players operated to refine his game.

“He used to do it with brute force but he’s getting some real method to what he does,” he said.

“He’s modelled himself on some of the best clearance players.

“Of course he can better, everyone can get better.

“His contested marking is good, he can continue to work on his decision making.”
