Andrew Brayshaw has sent a warning to the rest of the AFL – if Fremantle are preforming well at six and one, wait until their captain returns.
With Nat Fyfe on the sidelines, Fremantle have enjoyed their best start to a season since 2015, defeating Geelong at the home ground on Sunday to remain in second place on the ladder.
Fremantle rank 13th for contested possessions and clearances this season and Brayshaw believes Fremantle need Fyfe’s abilities as an ‘inside bull’ if they are to remain competitive.
“I think it is lost on a lot of people that we have a two-time Brownlow medallist that isn't playing in the side at the moment,” Brayshaw said.
“He's just an inside bull who we could really use. When he's at his best he is the best player in the competition.
“I fully expect him to be slotting straight back into the midfield and we can work around him because he's such a threat and we can't wait to have him back.”
And when Fyfe returns, Brayshaw expects to see a player performing at his Brownlow-winning best.
“Before he had his back surgery when he was on track to be coming back into the side, he looked in some of the best nick I've ever seen,” Brayshaw said.
“I really thought, when we were going to get him a bit earlier, that he was going to be at his absolute best and I still expect that.
“He works harder than anyone I've ever seen in my five years at the club.”
