Blake Acres has lauded the contested work of his Fremantle teammates for his hot start to season 2022, putting together yet another performance against Geelong at GMHBA Stadium on Saturday.
Acres was responsible for plenty of Fremantle’s drive into attack, leading his side for metres gained (675m) and inside 50s (eight).
The winger also collected 27 disposals to go along with six marks, four tackles and 109 AFL Fantasy points.

It was a picture of a balanced performance for Acres with six score involvements helping drive offence in Freo’s front half, while also having six intercept possessions.
The 26-year-old credited the efforts of his teammates in the contest which have helped bring him into games this season.
“It’s on the back of all my teammates, the work they do inside the stoppages and in the contest really gets me involved,” Acres said.
“I just keep rocking up to the contest and my boys win it for me and feed it out which is lovely.
“I’ll keep getting there and, hopefully, I’ll keep getting a bit of the pill.”
Acres believed the three-point win on the road was a clear sign of growth amongst the group, particularly after consecutive losses against the Cats in recent years.
Freo went down at home last season against Geelong by 69-points, which followed a 32-point loss to the Cats in 2020.
“Last year, Geelong thumped us on our own home deck and we really spoke about how we wanted to see how far we’ve come,” Acres said.
“I think this shows us that we’ve really improved this year and it’s great to get a win on the road, but especially in Geelong.
“They’re a real tough team especially on their home deck.
“We’ll take a lot of confidence out of this win. It was great to get a win for Darcy Tucker too, who had his 100th game. I’m pumped for all the boys.”

Acres said the playing group were particularly proud of the team defence on display so far in 2022, a part of Freo’s game style that will be continuously worked on as the season progresses.
“We pride our whole game on our team defence and pressure in the front half,” Acres said.
“To be able to get a bit of reward off that is great.
“We just do that all game, we’ll keep knuckling down on that side of the game.”
