David Mundy is hopeful to be ready for selection ahead of the 20th annual Starlight Purple Haze Game, proudly presented by South 32 on Saturday night at Optus Stadium.
The midfielder has spent the past 10 days under the AFL’s health and safety protocols and said it’s great to be back training at the Club.
“It was great to get into the Club and get around the boys,” Mundy told 96FM.
“It’s been a little while since I’ve had a decent hit out, so it’s going to be a bit of a build-up throughout the week, and we’ll see how I recover from each session and see how I’m feeling.
“The goal is to prepare and be ready by Saturday night, but it’s just going to be a bit of a wait and see.”
Mundy has missed out on two out of the three rounds of the 2022 season so far due to protocols.
The midfielder says it’s been great to see the team learning from the challenges presented in the early rounds of the season.
Round one saw Fremantle come out on top by only a single point against Adelaide, and round two saw a disappointing 10-point loss to St. Kilda.
“We got away with one against Adelaide and had a nice win, and obviously a poor performance against St. Kilda, but we really bounced back against West Coast so, hopefully, over the next few rounds we can continue on that form and bank some early wins,” Mundy said.
The veteran believes it was great to see the team focusing on being braver with their ball movements before round three’s RAC Derby win, which saw Freo beat West Coast by 55-points.
“The boys really focused last week at being a lot braver with our ball movements once we won the ball back and they were trying to really exploit the game off the back of those turnovers and we were able to do that,” Mundy said.
“We scored really heavily off turnover, which was really pleasing, it’s quite a difficult thing to do but it’s where the games won or lost a lot of the times now.
“It was a really great step forward for us and, hopefully, we can take those lessons into the upcoming weeks and not have another dip like the St. Kilda game.

Mundy is confident the team is ready to move on to their next challenge in GWS on Saturday.
“It’s going to be a great challenge for us to protect the ball once we have it and play the way that we have, but also to defend behind it,” Mundy said.
“GWS are stacked with top draft picks and stars on every line, so it’s going to be a great challenge for us.”
Mundy is excited to be a part of one of the more ‘memorable’ fixtures on the calendar this weekend.
“The Starlight Purple Haze Game has been really memorable throughout my career and through that we’ve met some incredible young children and incredible families going through extraordinarily difficult times,” Mundy said.
“Hopefully, we can get a really great crowd donning their purple kit at the game and people can really dig deep and donate to a great cause and help us get a really good win.”
Final teams for Saturday's clash will be announced on Thursday 7 April at fremantlefc.com.au at 4.20pm WST
