Throughout the 20 years of the Starlight Purple Haze game, Fremantle have had the pleasure of getting to know many beautiful children through the Starlight Children's foundation.

Bringing these kids in and being able to put a smile on their faces means the world to the Club.

Last year we welcomed Nora Holly, A brave young Freo fan who met Nat Fyfe when she was the Telethon Star in 2020.

We spoke to Nora and her Mum, Naomi, about her experience last year and how she's going now.

Nora, tell us about yourself! Name, where you’re from, what your hobbies and interests are.

My name is Nora Holly, from Perth (and Austria). My hobbies are netball, dancing, gymnastics, drawing, and arts and crafts.

Tell us a little bit about your involvement in a previous Purple Haze match. When was it? Who did Freo play and did they win? What were the fun things you got to do? Did you get to meet anyone special?

Naomi: We have gone to the Purple Haze games in the past as a family as we are Freo Dockers fans. Last year we were invited by Starlight and we got interviewed before the game on the big screen, it was a great view from up in the Skyview bar. It was great seeing the Starlight captains at the game, Nora loves them so much. It was also the year that Freo wore Milli’s tribute jersey and Milli was a close friend of ours, so it was great to be there for that and to support them. Nora’s most rememberable moment from the match was when she accidentally got hit by a footy kicked by Michael Walters pre-game, when it came over the net during their warm up. He was extremely apologetic and blew her kisses. He then reached out on his Instagram page to track her down. He got in contact with me to apologise to her and wanted to meet in person to say sorry. The kids loved waving around the big flags and taking shelter under them when it rained. We all had a blast.

What did being involved in Purple Haze mean to you?

Nora: It means a lot. Because it was fun and I was amazed. I like the Freo Dockers and Starlight.

Naomi: As a Freo family we love that they support Starlight. The Purple Haze day has always had such a great atmosphere, we have always enjoyed the day. Since Nora was diagnosed it means so much more to us. To be able to play a bigger part in the day and help raise funds by sharing our story and telling people how their donations can help families like ours is an honour. We also love making memories and these days are days we never forget.

Who was your favourite player then, and who is your favourite player now?

Then: Nat Fyfe then (I got to meet him when I did telethon)

Now: Nat Fyfe and “the guy who hit me, what’s his name?” Michael Walters
