Hayley Miller believes Saturday’s qualifying final win over North Melbourne was Fremantle’s ‘most complete performance’ for the year, as the first-year captain prepares to lead her side into a preliminary final against Adelaide.
After a shaky first quarter, Fremantle found their groove and heaped on the scoreboard pressure to run out 38-point winners at the final siren.
In a typically dominant fashion, Miller led from the front with 21 disposals, six tackles, six inside 50s, five clearances and a game-high 452 metres gained.
“That was our most complete performance for the year and, probably, over the last couple of years,” Miller told 6PR.
“It was awesome to be able to do that in a final. Unfortunately, the last couple of finals series haven’t gone our way.
“We really wanted to come out here and show our football, and that’s what we did.
“Everyone put their best foot forward and put a complete game together.”
Miller said the most impressive aspect was Fremantle’s ability to control the ball, and use composure to transition into attack.
Fremantle won the marks count 51-43, while also generating a lot of possession from the stoppage, winning clearances 28-20.
“I think (the most impressive part) was the way we controlled the footy,” Miller said.
“A lot of people think we have only got one way we can go and that is fast down the ground.
“To be able to compose ourselves and hit those shorter options and get that kick-mark game going was great.
“We had no passengers out there today…there are obviously things that we can tidy up for sure, but that’s what you want.”
