Nathan Wilson has been sent for further scans while Rory Lobb looks to be clear of any significant injury following Sunday’s AAMI Community Series clash against West Coast.
In the first Perth Radiological Clinic injury update of 2022, Executive General Manager of Football Peter Bell said Wilson had sustained a shoulder injury from the game at Optus Stadium.
“Nathan had a pretty serious knock to the shoulder. We sent him for a scan yesterday, but we wanted more done today to see if there’s any bone damage or fracture in that shoulder area,” Bell said.
“We’ll know more in a couple of days, fingers crossed it’s not a serious injury.”
Lobb was replaced at half time by Lloyd Meek after the forward had a heavy collision with Sean Darcy in the second quarter.
“It was a big collision and Rory was struggling to breathe quite a bit, so just as a precaution, we took him off,” Bell said.
“So far, the signs are good, we just want to see how he progresses through the week. I’m anticipating that he’ll be right to play in round one.”
Bell said midfielders Nat Fyfe and Darcy Tucker could potentially get some minutes in a match sim this weekend as they push to be cleared to play in round one against Adelaide on 20 March.
“They’re both some chance to join in match sim, we’re still working out what that might look like this weekend,” Bell said.
“They’re very close and both of them will be tests for round one as well.”
New recruits Matt Johnson (ankle) and Eric Benning (leg) are progressing in their recoveries from injury.
“Matthew’s going really well but we’re all disappointed for Johnno. He’s still in the moon boot at times but doing some partial weight bearing as well and lots of cross training,” Bell said.
“Once he gets out of the boot, we’ll have more of an idea on when a return to play will be for Matt.
“Eric is doing a lot of conditioning work, he’s just got an issue around a patella tendon and also some shin soreness as well.
“He’s just a young player adapting to the program and the volumes. He’s making steady inroads into that and we’re looking forward to building his program and hopefully he’s not too far away from returning to full training.
