Sunday’s AAMI Community Series clash against West Coast has been relocated from Fremantle Oval to Optus Stadium, in a game that will unfortunately be closed to the public.

The decision to relocate the game was made after the AFL and two Clubs were informed that the WA Government Level 2 restrictions would limit the crowd to just 600 people at Fremantle Oval.

While Optus Stadium is unable to accommodate a crowd, the decision was made to move the game to Optus Stadium to give both Fremantle and West Coast the opportunity to play at the ground leading into the 2022 season.

Fremantle CEO Simon Garlick said the Club empathised with members and supporters who were looking forward to seeing the game live.

“As a part of the AAMI Community Series, we were very eager to play in front of a large crowd at Fremantle Oval during our pre-season preparations,” Garlick said.

“Unfortunately, Optus Stadium will not be in a position to hold a crowd due to a number of factors, however with the removal of the chance to have a large crowd at Fremantle Oval, it was decided in conjunction with the AFL and West Coast that playing the game at Optus Stadium will provide the best preparation for the season ahead.

“These changes aren’t ideal - all we want to do is get in front of our fans, however given only 600 people could attend the game at Fremantle Oval we hope our members and supporters will understand and support the decision.

“Our AFL team can’t wait to be reunited with the Purple Army at Optus Stadium later this month in round two against St Kilda."

The AAMI Community Series clash will be broadcast on Fox Footy and Kayo with bouncedown at 4.10pm on Sunday 6 March.
