Friday’s 97-point practice match win against West Coast was the first chance for Jordan Clark, Will Brodie and Nathan O’Driscoll to represent Fremantle against AFL opposition, and forward Lachie Schultz was impressed what all three delivered at Lathlain Park.
Clark and Brodie are new recruits from Geelong and Gold Coast respectively and were both listed among Fremantle’s best in the match reports.
O’Driscoll was drafted at no.27 in 2020 as an exciting midfield talent and didn’t look out of depth in a strong showing.
While his pace off half back was Clark’s most important contribution, he provided one of the highlights of the game with a goal from outside 50m.
“Clarky’s exciting, his run off half back is something we’ve probably lacked over the past couple of years and for him to break the game open like he did today is just awesome to see,” Schultz said.
“He’s got a long kick and that long goal that we saw was really nice.
“Will Brodie inside is strong and clean, he’s a really good player. What they’ve been able to bring to us is awesome.”
Schultz feels that the 19-year-old O’Driscoll has a bright future at Fremantle.
“For Drizzy, he played his first game, I thought he really stood up today and he didn’t look out of place at all. It looked like he belonged,” Schultz said.
“He’s another young gun coming through and it’s exciting to see what he’s going to be able to bring.”
The day was an important one for Schultz, who kicked two goals while playing full minutes in a hitout for the first time this pre-season after being held back due to injury.
“It’s just awesome to be back playing again and in the uniform,” Schultz said.
“To be out there with the boys, have a really good hitout and come away with a really good win, we can take a lot from that.
“We’ll obviously review it and there’s a few things we’d like to tidy up still. It’s just good to be back out there.”
