Fremantle have notified the AFL that the Club will appeal the charge of rough conduct handed to midfielder Kiara Bowers following an incident in Freo’s clash with the Western Bulldogs at VU Whitten Oval on Tuesday.

The incident occurred in the fourth quarter involving the Bulldogs’ Kirsty Lamb.

The AFL match review officer classified the incident as intentional conduct, medium impact and high contact.

Based on that classification, Bowers was offered a two-match suspension with an early plea.

Head of football operations and performance Bob Murphy said the Club believed there were grounds to challenge.

“Following confirmation from the AFL in relation to the charge we have consulted with our lawyers and Club management overnight,” Murphy said.

“Based on the current grading, we believe there are grounds to challenge.

“We hope for a successful outcome at the tribunal.”

The tribunal hearing will occur at 7.30pm AEDT on Thursday evening.
