The Fremantle Football Club extends its condolences to the family of Percy Johnson, who passed away on Saturday at the age of 88.
Johnson was Fremantle’s inaugural ruck coach in 1995, however his period at the Club represented just a small part of his long and storied impact on football in WA.
An East Fremantle premiership player in 1957, he also represented Swan Districts and Claremont for a total of 228 career WAFL games.
He also coached three WAFL clubs in Swan Districts, South Fremantle and West Perth.
In 2010, he was inducted into the West Australian Football Hall of Fame.
Fremantle was always close to Johnson’s heart, joining the Club as a member following his period as a ruck coach.
He was a 25-year member and made a Platinum Pledge in 2020 when the Club called on its members for support during the early months of the Covid-19 pandemic.
