Fremantle will kickstart its 2022 campaign on a Saturday evening in the heart of Freo, following the announcement of the 2022 NAB AFL Women’s Competition fixture on Thursday.

Back-to-back home games at Fremantle Oval against Adelaide and GWS outline the first two weeks of the season, before Freo take to the road for an extended stretch of games on the east coast.

The Adelaide clash will be Fremantle’s first ever home game under lights in the Club’s heartland.

Round three will see Fremantle face Richmond for the very first time since the Tigers’ inception into the AFLW competition ahead of the 2020 season.

Fremantle will stay in Victoria to face Collingwood in round four, before a first ever visit to Tasmania for the Club’s AFLW side to play North Melbourne in a round five clash in Hobart.

Returning home in round six, Freo will play three of the next four games at home, including Fremantle Oval fixtures against Carlton (round six) and Melbourne (round nine).

Announced on Wednesday, Fremantle’s Saturday night prime-time RAC Derby fixture against West Coast in round eight is one of the highlights of the season.

Held under lights at Optus Stadium, the cross-town clash also lands on Indigenous Round, with Freo to wear the Indigenous jumper designed by past player Des Headland, AFLW player Mikayla Morrison and Indigenous artist Kevin Bynder.

Amongst Fremantle’s opponents in 2022 is last season’s finalists in Adelaide, Collingwood, Melbourne and North Melbourne.

Fremantle senior coach Trent Cooper said the fixture brings plenty of excitement for Freo fans, particularly across the opening rounds.

“We’re really excited to have round one at home in front of the Purple Army at a 5.50pm timeslot that should be really great for people to attend the game at Freo Oval,” Cooper said.

“To also play one of the competition benchmarks in Adelaide first up, who challenge every year, will give us a good idea of where we sit.

“To kickstart our season with two games at home gives us a chance to really build momentum early in the season.

‘We’re also really excited about our extended road trip, we are looking forward to the challenges of playing Richmond and Collingwood at their traditional home grounds and then down to Hobart for the first time to play North Melbourne.
