The final home game for the inaugural AFLW season gave the Fremantle Dockers a historic and long-awaited victory.

A consistent, four-quarter effort with plenty of high-flying marks and defensive pressure saw the girls win by 16 points over a formidable Carlton side.

Fremantle midfielder Cassie Davidson was ecstatic when the final siren sounded and she noticed Fremantle had won.

“We are very relieved and happy that we got the win and the opportunity to sing the song on the field,” she said.

“It is definitely a change of pace from previous rounds.”

Davidson said the agenda going into the match with Carlton was to play all four quarters.

“We’ve come out (in past games) and played bits and pieces but I think today was just a full game effort,” she said.

“Everybody was weighing in during the match and played their role to get the team over the line.”

The midfielder felt good about playing at Domain Stadium, arguably the biggest venue the Fremantle Dockers had played in all season.

“I think the oval was a bit long than what we were used to,” Davidson said.

“The crowd got around us again and it was amazing to get the win for them.”

Davidson was also happy to have been recognised by coach Michelle Cowan for an exceptional effort tagging Carlton forward Darcy Vescio.

“I just wanted to play my role for the team and if that’s doing heaps of small tasks, I’m happy,” she said.

Fremantle’s final game of the AFLW season will see the team travel to Casey Fields to take on the Melbourne Demons.
