After nine seasons at Peel Thunder, two-time premiership coach Cam Shepherd will finish up in the role at season’s end.

The decision was mutually agreed to by Peel, Fremantle and Shepherd.

Shepherd will coach Peel for the remaining rounds of this season, where they currently sit eighth on the WAFL ladder with four wins.

Since the Fremantle and Peel alignment began in 2013, Shepherd has been responsible for delivering the Club’s first-ever WAFL final appearance in 2015, as well as the club’s inaugural back-to-back premierships in 2016 and 2017.

The former Perth and Claremont midfielder was appointed as senior coach at the end of 2012, with nine of those years in charge during the alignment.

Executive general manager of football Peter Bell praised the premiership coach for his dedication throughout the alignment in developing Fremantle’s youth.

“We would like to thank Cam for his dedication and service to not only the Fremantle Football Club for developing our exciting youth but to Peel Thunder Football Club as well,” Bell said.

“The Club understands the importance of a solid WAFL program and Cam has been at the fore front of that for nine years.

“We also acknowledge the trying circumstances Cam has had to work under in the past 18 months due to the Covid-19 pandemic. 

“We wish Cam all the best in his future endeavours.”

Shepherd said he was proud of his time as senior coach.

“It has been an honour to coach Peel Thunder for nine seasons and be a part of many firsts for what is a proud Club, namely their first finals appearance and back-to-back Premiership wins,” Shepherd said.

“There is a passionate football community in Mandurah and I would like to thank everyone I was involved with at the Peel Thunder in that time.

“I would also like to thank the Fremantle Football Club for what has been a very successful working relationship through the past nine years of alignment.”
