Cerra made the step up and turned his potential into genuine AFL talent as he dominated a handful of games, including Fremantle’s wins against Hawthorn in round 11 and Melbourne in round 16. Playing mostly on the wing or as an inside midfielder, Cerra did things with the football that most AFL players couldn’t, with his spectacular goal against Melbourne just one example of his ability to execute by foot. He ranked second at Fremantle for tackles and at 20 years of age earned a third-place finish in the Doig Medal.
