Michael Walters says the Fremantle playing group is making the most of their downtime during this week’s training camp on the Gold Coast.
On top of their gruelling training schedule and education sessions to learn the game plan, the playing group is using their free time to bond as the club prepares for the 2019 season.
While some head to the beach, Walters has enjoyed going out for coffee when there’s a break between sessions.
“There’s been a lot of coffee breaks and that’s probably why I do a lot of talking in the meetings!” joked Walters.
“The majority of the time, we’re hanging out with the other players.
“We’re lucky enough to have table tennis and an Xbox near the dining room, so a lot of the players are playing FIFA and basketball and things like that.
“It’s good for us to get that one-on-one time with the younger players too, to get to know them while having a bit of fun as well.”
After bringing in 10 new faces through the NAB AFL Draft and Trade periods, Walters said it’s good to see Fremantle’s new players settling in.
“It’s been really good, the younger players are starting to come out of their shells and say a bit,” Walters said.
“That’s what this camp is all about, we wanted the younger players to understand the structure and to also see what it’s like day by day in an AFL environment.
“To have this camp has been great for the younger boys and us senior players as well.”
