Getting selected at no.17 on Thursday night at the NAB AFL National Draft was already an overwhelming experience for new Fremantle Docker Sam Sturt.
And then Nat Fyfe gave him a call.
The Fremantle captain welcomed the talented forward to the club and passed on a key message that resonated with Fyfe when he was drafted with pick no.20 in 2009.
“I bet your heads spinning a bit over there, congratulations on being picked up by the Fremantle Dockers!” Fyfe said.
“Over the next couple of days, just really enjoy it with your friends and family.
“I’ll say what Matthew Pavlich told me nine years ago when I got drafted, which is enjoy it but the hard work really starts now.
“You’ve done a lot of work to get drafted but this is when the real stuff starts. We’re excited to have you on board and keen for you to grow and see what you can do.”
