Fremantle could field its eighth debutant of the season when taking on Carlton on Sunday at Optus Stadium, with Sam Switkowski named in Freo’s extended squad of 26.
A mature age recruit from the Box Hill Hawks, Switkowski was taken at pick no.73 in the 2017 NAB AFL National Draft.
The 21-year-old is one of seven potential inclusions against Carlton, joining Tommy Sheridan, Taylin Duman, Ryan Nyhuis, Scott Jones, Shane Kersten and Stefan Giro in the squad.
Three injured players have come out of the Fremantle lineup that faced West Coast in Andrew Brayshaw (jaw), Stephen Hill (quad) and Darcy Tucker (back).
Switkowski has had an injury-interrupted season in his first year at Fremantle due to some hamstring issues and has played five games at WAFL level including the past three games for Peel.
Against East Perth, the small forward collected 19 disposals and laid seven tackles while kicking a goal.
If Switkowski plays against the Blues, he will become Fremantle’s eighth debutant of the season – the most of any AFL club this season.
Fremantle have seen 83 games played by debutants in 2018, 12 more than any other AFL club and more than double the average of 39.
The squad will be narrowed to a starting 22 on Friday, which will be announced on fremantlefc.com.au at 3pm WST.
Bouncedown for the clash on Sunday is at 2.40pm WST.
