Former Fremantle midfielder Anthony Morabito is back on board at the club, coming in on a weekly basis to help coach and share his knowledge with Fremantle’s Female Talent Academy.
Morabito will also assist former teammate and NGA coach Tendai Mzungu with the coaching duties at Sunday’s NGA Western Derby curtain raiser at Optus Stadium.
The 26-year-old said he’s happy to be back at the club and is enjoying working with women’s football.
“It’s definitely been good to get back and involved,” Morabito said.
“Obviously, I have a lot of long-term connections at Fremantle. It’s a different stimulus working with the women’s game and it’s been really interesting.”
“It’s been really good and something that I can do, once a week to get back involved with football as I’m not playing at the moment.”
Morabito said he’s always been open to coaching football one day.
“From my experiences in football, I’ve spent a bit of time on the sidelines, so indirectly I’ve always had an eye on coaching,” Morabito said.
“I probably didn’t think I’d be doing it so quickly after my playing days, so it’s something that I’m open to and working through.”
Thanks to some hard work on his studies when he was a listed Fremantle player, Morabito left the game with a university qualification and is now working full time.
“I was fortunate enough that while I was playing, I was able to study and finish a degree in commerce,” Morabito said.
“I’m working in an accounting and finance base which is quite interesting, but different to football obviously. It’s a nice challenge and something that I’m really enjoying.
“I think the message from the club, as soon as I walked through the door, was to have something outside of football so the transition is a lot smoother when you leave the game.
“From that respect, it was a really healthy message that the club portrayed to the younger athletes and it’s something that I’m passionate about.
“I’ve been able to reap the benefits of studying while playing, which has been great.”
