There were smiles abound as members of Fremantle’s AFL and AFLW teams were on hand to help launch the new Starlight Express Room at Perth Children’s Hospital on Tuesday morning.
The express room provides a medical-free space for kids and their families to relax and have fun, with Fremantle players Lachie Neale, Griffin Logue, Andrew Brayshaw and Dana Hooker taking part in the ribbon cutting ceremony.
Neale, who became an ambassador in his first year at the club in 2012, spoke about his personal connection to the cause that supports sick children and their families.
“It’s fantastic,” Neale said about the new Starlight Express Room.
“I’ve said it before but my family’s been through a little bit, something similar to this with my little sister.
“The work that Starlight does and everyone involved in the hospital…it’s fantastic and it does bring a few emotions out in me.
“I try and hide them as best I can but it’s fantastic and I couldn’t be prouder to be a part of it.”
Fellow ambassador Griffin Logue said he quickly saw the importance of Starlight’s work particulary being fortunate enough to grow up happy and healthy.
“I’ve been pretty lucky in terms of my life, not having to go through anything along the lines of what these kids have been through,” Logue said.
“It’s good to see that we can come in and not only make their day, but by making their day, they’re making mine as well.”
