There was an extra energy at Fremantle training at Victor George Kailis Oval on Wednesday, with more than 2000 Freo fans flocking to open training.

The fans were treated to a special session as leaders Nat Fyfe and Aaron Sandilands took the reins from the coaching group and put their teammates through their paces.

Fyfe and Sandilands, who are both currently rehabbing from injury, didn’t hold back and ensured that the group was put to test.

Fremantle youth member Liam Chandler, 10, was called upon as Fremantle’s ‘training assistant’, helping organise the drills and holding the board for Fyfe and Sandilands as they ran through each activity.

The players also wore their purple ‘home’ Indigenous jumpers that they will run out in on Sunday against Port Adelaide at Optus Stadium. The game will be celebrated as the 2018 NAIDOC game, presented by Woodside.

The school holiday session wrapped up with a goal-kicking competition, with brothers Bradley and Stephen Hill doing a ‘school yard’ pick for their teams.

It went down to the wire with Nathan Wilson’s bending snap securing the win for Bradley’s team while Stephen’s team was tasked with picking up the footys.

At the end of the session, the players took the time to sign autographs and take selfies with the fans.
