Senior coach Ross Lyon believes the best football of Nat Fyfe’s career will come in the years following his 150th game on Saturday.
Fyfe will lead the team out in his milestone game against Carlton at Etihad Stadium, with the Fremantle captain set to return after missing a game due to suspension.
At 26, Fyfe has already established himself as one of the best players in the competition and Lyon expects the 2015 Brownlow Medallist to only build from there.
“I think the best is yet to come and I think a big part of that is going to be his leadership,” Lyon said.
“It’s really improving and growing all the time.
“He’s become a great clearance player, competitor and contested ball winner who can mark the ball anywhere.
“He’s displayed great acts of courage, playing with a broken leg, shoulders and those sorts of things. He’s a credit to himself really.”
Lyon said he expects Fremantle’s efforts to reflect the occasion.
“What’s important from our end is that the playing group delivers the effort that shows the esteem we hold Nathan in,” Lyon said.
“That’s really what it’s all about. We can’t do it for Nathan but the effort should reflect the esteem we hold him in.”
