David King has high hopes for Fremantle’s future, with the Fox Footy analyst speaking positively of Freo's emerging stars in the wake of the team’s 16-point win against Essendon on Saturday at Optus Stadium.
King said he was confident in senior coach Ross Lyon’s ability to develop their young players, appearing as a guest on SEN's Whateley show on Monday.
“Ross talked about the four players who have played one game or less. Two debutants on the weekend and two last week,” Lyon said.
“One thing that is undeniable, he gets the most out of the talent available and I think he’s coached (his) teams, talent wise, to the absolute max.
“You give him picks two and five in the draft and watch him work his magic.
“Adam Cerra will be a star. Brayshaw will be a top-liner for a long time, while he’ll never wow you with what he does, he’ll do it consistently.”
There’s plenty of positives coming out of Fremantle’s backline, according to the two-time North Melbourne premiership player, especially through 22-year olds Alex Pearce and Luke Ryan.
Ryan took 12 marks in an outstanding performance at half-back on Saturday, while Pearce shut down Essendon's Joe Daniher, keeping the All Australian goalless for the first time in 40 games.
“Both Luke Ryan and Alex Pearce are top-liners,” King said.
“They’re going places. Particularly at home, they’re going to be very difficult to beat over there.”
The club will play three of their following four games at the new Freo Fortress, starting with the annual Starlight Purple Haze game against Gold Coast on Saturday.
The clash is an historic ‘away’ game for Fremantle, with tickets available through Ticketmaster.
