Fremantle AFL Women’s side have continued their solid start to the pre-season by defeating Adelaide by 12 points in a trial-match at TIO Stadium on Saturday night.
Fremantle started well but the reigning premiers controlled the rest of the game until Freo finished strongly to come away with the 6.6 (42) to 4.6 (30) win.
The game was tied up with only five minutes remaining when Ashlee Atkins delivered a match winning tackle in Freo’s forward line.
After the Crows didn’t return the ball correctly, Atkins was gifted a 50-metre penalty and put Freo back in the lead with an easy shot on goal.
Minutes later Stacey Barr was awarded another free kick and lined up 20 metres out to kick her third and seal the game.
Barr was solid up forward kicking the first goal of the game as well as a classy crumbing finish in the third quarter.

The Crows’ midfield got to work in the second quarter with both teams finishing the first half all square at 2.4 (16).
Midfielder Hayley Miller was influential through the middle during the second half using her pace to set up two goals.
The defensive unit were under siege all night but kept their composure led by Cassie Davidson, Ebony Antonio and first-year player Evie Gooch.
Someone tell @EbonyAntonio24 it’s just a practice match.

Freo’s endurance was tested in the Darwin heat but vice-captain Amy Lavell said the result was pleasing.
“It was very tough,” Lavell said.
“It’s good to see the girls working in their lines and implement what we’ve been working on in the pre-season.”
Lavell believes the team can’t be satisfied with their pre-season form.
“We just need to take this form into round one and continue to work hard as a group,” the forward said.
