Reigning premiers Peel Thunder face Subiaco this Sunday in the 2017 WAFL Grand Final at Domain Stadium.

Peel’s bid for back-to-back premierships won’t come easily after another successful season for the Lions - qualifying for their fourth consecutive grand final, while dropping just two games in 2017. 

Season summary
Peel finished third in the home and away season with a 12-8 record. Subiaco secured the minor premiership with a 19-1 record, winning 19 straight games after losing in round one to South Fremantle.

Qualifying final- Saturday 2nd September Peel v South Fremantle
Peel defeated South Fremantle by 18 points at Fremantle Oval in the qualifying final. Nick Suban had a stand out performance with 31 disposals, six marks, seven tackles and four inside 50s. Tommy Sheridan and Cam Sutcliffe also impressed, kicking a goal and gathering 22 disposals each. The win saw the Thunder advance through to the second semi-final to face minor premiers Subiaco.

Second Semi Final – Saturday 10th September - Peel v Subiaco
After losing all three games to Subiaco throughout the home and away season, Peel reversed the trend to advance through to their second consecutive Grand Final with a 24-point win.
The Thunder started strong, kicking the opening four majors and keeping Subiaco goalless until 25 minutes into the first term. Four goals from Matt Taberner proved crucial for the Thunder while the key forward also took 16 marks with his 19 touches.

Since joining in the WAFL competition in 1997, Peel have only played finals for the past three years, winning their first ever premiership in 2016.

Subiaco
Subiaco are one of the oldest and strongest teams in the WAFL, dating back to when they first entered the league in 1901. Since then the Lions have been highly successful, contesting a total of 27 grand finals and winning 13 premierships - their first coming in 1912 after defeating East Fremantle. Subiaco has been the league’s most successful side since the turn of the century, winning six flags and playing in 11 grand finals since 2000, including three straight flags from 2006 to 2008 and qualifying for four consecutive grand finals from 2014 to 2017.

Be a part of history
It will be the last ever WAFL Grand Final to be played at Domain Stadium with half price tickets, free entry for kids aged 15 and under and a special tribute to WA Football’s legends. The historic game will feature a pre-game parade from WA Football Hall of Fame inductees, past Sandover and Simpson medalists, and members of the 1977 State of Origin team - celebrating the 40th anniversary of WA’s win over Victoria. A $3 meat pie offer will be on offer to encourage all fans to help create a great atmosphere for the last WAFL Grand Final at the home of football in WA.
