If there’s one thing that Fremantle fans have brought to Domain Stadium in the club’s 23-years at the ground, it’s their unwavering support win or lose.
This was never so evident in the final quarter of Fremantle’s loss to Richmond on Sunday, when fans burst into the “FRE-O” chant after a late Josh Deluca goal.
After the game, the chant emerged again as the players left the ground and the Freo faithful bid farewell to Domain Stadium.
“It was a great sign of devotion,” Mundy said.
“They clearly love this team and this club. It really gives us an extra stimulus to try and turn it around as quickly as we can.
“It was a disappointing end to a venue we have a rich history in.
“It was a little bit emotional towards the end and it would have been better to see the stadium off in a better fashion.”
Remarkably, it was Fremantle who had the upper hand early, leading by four points at quarter time.
Mundy said the side came out strongly in what was an important day for the club.
“We may have been playing on emotion with Hayden Ballantyne’s 150th and Harley Bennell making his debut,” Mundy said.

“But emotion doesn’t get it done in the AFL. It shows that we have a bit of room to move.”
Mundy paid tribute to Bennell and Ballantyne as Bennell kicked two of Freo’s opening term goals while Ballantyne added a major late in his milestone game.
“Harley’s obviously an exceptionally talented footballer. When he’s around the ball things happen,” Mundy said.
“It was great to get him a part of our forward line and, hopefully, moving forward we can start stacking those performances.
“In the past few weeks, Hayden has really got back to him ferocious best. He’s chasing and tackling and getting the offensive reward as a result.
“It wasn't a great result for Hayden tonight but he has a rich history with Fremantle and I think he’s got a bright future.”
Mundy said the group is determined to close off the season with an improved performance against Essendon.
“The fans’ support, throughout a fairly ordinary year, has been fantastic,” Mundy said.
“There were 34,000 here tonight and to get that level of support, it’s something that we certainly value.
“Clearly, we want to sign-off 2017 in the right sort of fashion.
“There’s a certain Fremantle way that we want to play and I think everyone recognises that. That will be the goal.”
