- Match day information v Gold Coast
Fremantle face Gold Coast on Saturday at Domain Stadium, needing to make at least one change with versatile defender Connor Blakely ruled out for the season with a shoulder injury.
In the WAFL, Peel have a bye after losing two games in a row - most recently a 16-point loss to Swan Districts at Steel Blue Oval.
Here’s who could come in for the clash.
Ryan Nyhuis
Nyhuis has kicked five goals in three games since making his AFL debut in round 16 against North Melbourne but didn’t play as a travelling emergency against GWS last week.
A bye this week for Peel may work in the 20-year-old’s favour – if Nyhuis is not selected it means he faces back-to-back weeks on the sidelines.
Josh Deluca
Deluca has played two games at AFL level since making his debut in round 14, picking up 13 disposals against Geelong and 11 against Hawthorn in round 18. The 21-year-old has averaged 20.7 disposals at WAFL level, playing mostly in the midfield. Last week, Deluca played at half-forward for Peel, picking up 12 touches and kicking a goal.
Tommy Sheridan
Sheridan has spent the past three weeks on the sidelines with a hamstring injury and is listed as a test to return this week.
From eight games at AFL level, Sheridan has averaged 14 disposals, playing mostly in Freo’s backline.
Garrick Ibbotson
Ibbotson had 17 kicks and took eight marks at half-back as one of Peel’s best against Swan Districts. The injury to Connor Blakely opens the door for Ibbotson’s return since his omission after Freo’s loss to Adelaide in round 10.
Matt Taberner
Taberner went goalless at WAFL level for the first time in 2017 after kicking 13 goals in his previous three appearances. While Taberner has proved handy up front for Peel, his ability to help out in the ruck may see the 197cm forward return to help out 19-year-old Sean Darcy, who has played the past six games as Freo’s lone specialist ruckman.
Jon Griffin
Griffin has averaged 40 hitouts through five games at WAFL level since taking on the role as Peel’s lone ruckman in round 15 and may also be called upon to help Darcy in the ruck.
Danyle Pearce
One of Peel’s best against Swan Districts, Pearce put up impressive numbers with 24 disposals, seven marks and six tackles, while leading Peel with 20 kicks and four inside 50s. Peace last played for Freo in round 10 against Adelaide and if he is recalled, he will play his 100th game for Freo.
Sam Collins
Another strong performance in defence, Collins took nine marks and collected 19 disposals.
From 16 games, Collins leads the WAFL with 127 marks, averaging just under eight per game.
