- Peel defeated in Grand Final rematch
- Standard has been set: Hamling
A successful week on the field can only mean a headache for selectors as competition heats up for spots in Fremantle’s starting 22.
Last week at Domain Stadium, Fremantle broke through against the Bulldogs after making six changes to their line-up.
Now selectors face the difficult task of deciding on whether to stick with a winning formula for the side that will face Melbourne on Saturday at the MCG, or make further changes after some impressive individual performances for Peel.
Darcy Tucker
With Fremantle making a point of playing youth, the 20-year-old Darcy Tucker was the youngest of Fremantle’s omissions in round three. Tucker bounced back at Peel with 24 kicks from his 30 disposals while playing on the wing and at half-back.
Sam Collins
Was impressive again for Peel as a key defender, but after a strong week for Fremantle’s defence it is harder to find an avenue into the side for the 22-year-old.
Matt Taberner
Has kicked 10 goals in the past three weeks, following a four-goal performance against Subiaco on Saturday. Senior coach Ross Lyon used defender Michael Johnson as a back-up ruckman against the Bulldogs, and the 197cm Taberner poses as a versatile ruck option for Freo’s forwardline.
Jon Griffin
Omitted for round three, Griffin remains one of Fremantle’s stronger options as a ruck/forward after picking up 22 hit outs and kicking a goal against Subiaco.
Cam Sutcliffe
The 24-year-old picked up 28 touches and four tackles at half-back in his first game for Peel in 2017 after averaging 20.5 disposals over the opening two rounds for Freo.
