Fremantle newcomer Bradley Hill says he is confident that he will continue to play the role that he was best known for during his time at Hawthorn.
The 23-year-old boasts an elite running capacity, and aims to keep getting the most out of his legs.
“My role will be pretty similar (at Fremantle) I think,” Hill said.
“I’m that outside player trying to run and take the game on using my legs.
“It’s pretty similar to what I had at Hawthorn so, hopefully, I can bring that in here and play some good footy.”
The wingman’s speed and endurance has been on show since his return to Western Australia, winning both of Fremantle’s 3km time trials during the pre-season training block.
And after just one JLT Community Series Game, Hill has already shown he will be an asset to his new club.
Facing off against West Coast in Geraldton, Hill kicked two goals, created three rebound 50s and was on ground for 79 per cent of the total game time – the equal second highest for Freo on a scorching day at Wonthella Oval.
The ground dimensions in Geraldton provided another test on top of the heat, as Hill looks to become accustomed to playing more regularly on a longer oval.
At 180m, Wonthella Oval stretches five metres longer than Domain Stadium, which is the longest in the AFL and, according to Hill, one of “the biggest” he has ever played on.
Since 2013, Hill has averaged 351.8 metres gained per game on the wide expanses of the MCG according to Champion Data, compared to 315.2 metres gained during six games played at Domain Stadium.
While Hill admitted he hadn’t been as prolific on the narrow oval at Domain, he acknowledged that he was coming up against some tough opponents.
“I probably haven’t had the best games at Subi,” Hill said.
“Obviously when we come over there the teams are pretty good, but over in Melbourne we had a big wide ground.
“It’s a bit skinnier over here, but we have a good side so I hope to play some better footy.”
