It may still be 2016, but season 2017 has officially commenced at Fremantle headquarters.
A handful of Freo’s one to four year players have returned to the club, including Cam McCarthy, who trained in his first official obligation as a Fremantle Docker.
Lachie Weller, Matt Taberner and Matthew Uebergang joined McCarthy in the one to four year training group, while Bradley Hill showed his eagerness to get his pre-season started, voluntarily coming in to take part in the running sessions.
The remainder of Fremantle’s one to four year players have been given an extra fortnight’s break after playing in Peel Thunder’s WAFL finals campaign.
Speaking after the training session, which involved mostly stretching and running, Weller said he saw the coming fortnight as an opportunity to get ahead.
“Basically getting a head start on all the rest of them,” Weller said.
“I’m slowly building into it and will, hopefully, use it as an advantage over the other boys.
“Cam’s running pretty well, I think he’s already had a couple weeks at the club running and Brad came in for a quick little run, he didn’t have to so it was good to see them.”
The delisted Brady Grey also returned to Fremantle Oval this morning. Grey is training with the club with the possibility of being relisted during this month’s draft period.
The five-plus year players and the Peel finals players are officially scheduled to join the group on Monday 21 November.
