Ed Langdon’s decision to stay at Fremantle is motivated by a desire to pay back the faith the club has shown in him since being recruited in the 2014 national draft
Langdon enjoyed a purple patch towards the end of the season, collecting at least 20 possessions in four consecutive games.
Langdon, who agreed a new one-year contract for season 2017, said he was feeling more at home in Perth.
“I had a really enjoyable year this year and really started to feel like I was finding my feet at AFL level,” he said.
“I’m really enjoying my football here, so that’s what is going to be happening next year.”
Freo players excited about Grand Final
Langdon, whose older brother Tom plays for Collingwood, averaged more than 15 disposals-a-game across his 13 games this season and believes he still has plenty of improvement in him.
“I like to think I have a lot of upside to me still. There are still a lot of aspects to my game that I need to work on,” he said.
“A lot of the stuff I need to work on is skill related stuff, kicking is probably the big one that I will be looking to improve this off-season and pre-season.”
The 20-year-old credited development coach Anthony Rock, who played 222 AFL games for North Melbourne and Hawthorn, with helping him improve his game.
“We’ve got some great assistant coaches here and some great development coaches,” he said.
“Anthony Rock in particular has helped me a lot this year and I’ll just be looking to improve as well.”
Blakely brings 'grunt' to Peel side
Langdon believes the club’s difficulties this year through injury has benefited the younger players in the squad.
Langdon, along with Connor Blakely, Darcy Tucker, Sam Collins and Lachie Weller, were afforded a lot more game time by the absence of the likes of Nat Fyfe and Michael Johnson.
“A lot of young guys got great game time and a lot of experience this year,” he said.
“It will be tough to get a game in round one, but that’s great for the club.”
Langdon will line-up for Peel Thunder on Sunday as they attempt to win the club’s first premiership when they face Subiaco at Domain Stadium.
