Fremantle small forward Shane Yarran says he can’t wait to go head-to-head with his former team Subiaco in the WAFL grand final on Sunday.
 
In wet and windy conditions Peel secured a spot in the premiership decider yesterday when the visitors defeated South Fremantle by 39 points at Fremantle Oval.
 
Yarran said he was pleased with the way the team worked together against the Bulldogs.
 
“As a team you don’t really worry about the individual performance,” he said.
 
“It’s good to get on the scoreboard and get a few kicks early but I thought as a whole group we gelled really well.”
 
Yarran played for Subiaco in the club’s 2014 and 2015 premierships and said he was excited to play for Peel in the club’s first ever Grand Final.
 
“I haven’t met Subiaco this season, but it’s been exciting I actually can’t wait, really,” he said.
 
“I want to meet them in the Grand Final. It’s going to be exciting and it will be really good to get out there amongst the boys and hopefully get a win.”
 
In his debut season for Fremantle, Yarran has played six games and kicked at least one goal in each.

But the 2015 Bernie Naylor Medal winner said his focus was also on helping his team mates.
 
“You go out there, you stick with your basic stuff that you do as a normal routine,” Yarran said.
 
“I think getting on the scoreboard and kicking a few goals comes as a reward.”
 
Yarran said playing in the AFL taught him a lot.
 
“For me, my defensive pressure and strong lines have been a big focus for me and to be able to play out the game and keep worrying about your next moment,” he said.
 
The small forward said he was confident the Thunder could take out their first ever WAFL premiership.
 
“I just think it starts right now with our prep and how we go about it,” he said.
 
“Everyone just has to gel and work together as we’ve been playing. We’ve just gotta go out there put in the effort, focus on the basics and everything else will come on board.”
 
Peel Thunder face Subiaco at Domain Stadium on Sunday at 2:30pm WST.
