Having the choice to retire is a privilege, according to Fremantle forward Matthew Pavlich.
Pavlich is set to play his final game this Sunday against the Bulldogs at Domain Stadium.
“The game doesn’t discriminate with injuries and form,” Pavlich said.
“No one is immune to those things.
“It’s a privilege to be able to choose when to stop.”
Pavlich, a six-time All-Australian, said he has given everything he could to football.
“It’s a nice day to give every last ounce of what my body and mind are willing,” Pavlich said.
“I think that’s what a player asks themselves at the end of their career, the three questions.
“Could I have done more? The answer is no. Is there anything left? The answer is, after about 5pm Sunday, there will not be. Am I fulfilled? In a lot of ways, I am fulfilled and I am content.
“I can walk away knowing that there’s not one ounce of energy left towards football that I could give.”
Pavlich will take the field for the 353rd and final time in Fremantle’s Sunday afternoon clash with the Western Bulldogs at Domain Stadium at 2:40pm AWST.
