Before Sunday, Fremantle champion Matthew Pavlich didn’t understand the fanfare behind running through the banner with family.

But after taking to the field ahead of his 350th appearance with daughter, Harper, and son, Jack, the former skipper began to savour the moment.

“I must admit, when I was younger and seeing players run out with their kids, I didn’t really understand why they did that,” he said.

“When you have your own kids, you can understand the connection.

“It was a great moment to share with them and it’s something that we’ll always remember.”

Pavlich played well, opposed to Swans defender Dane Rampe.

The forward gathered 15 possessions, eight marks, two goals and two assists, with limited supply.

Sydney were dominant through the midfield and clean with their ball use in the 90-point win.

Pavlich said his opponents had earned the right to enjoy the victory, but was touched to receive a guard of honour.

“I said to (Swans captain) Jarrad McVeigh, ‘given the way it panned out, you guys can walk off and appreciate it,’ but he was adamant that it was to happen.

“It’s a nice gesture, particularly for a team who I respect really highly.

“Their culture – a lot of their people are fantastic people.

“Both the players and their off-field staff.

“It was a nice moment.”
