Fremantle need to fix the little things as the team looks for continued improvement, according to defender Lee Spurr.

Freo started well against Geelong on Friday night, but allowed the Cats back into the game after going into the first break with a 16-point lead.

“Just some little things let us down, but we can fix them,” he said.

Talking points from Geelong loss

“We’ll have a sharp review like we always do, and look to improve and move forward.”

Spurr said there were positives to take out of the loss to the Cats, with the team looking to build on them against Gold Coast.

“Obviously the start was a real positive, and the way we finished as well, we really took the game on, and got some attacking position gains, and really gave ourselves a chance to win, so that’s a couple of positives to take away from the game,” he said.

Fremantle laid 30 tackles and went inside 50 on 16 occasions in the final term, but weren’t able to chase down the Cats, who held off Freo by 17 points.

Spurr, who finished with 18 disposals, said the team wanted to atone for their poor first quarter against Melbourne a week earlier.

“If you looked at last week, and our first quarter really let us down, so we came out firing which is really good and we started really well,” he said.

Fremantle play Gold Coast on Saturday afternoon at Metricon Stadium, and Spurr said the team needed to review the performance and identify the areas of improvement.

“The most important thing is recovery, we’ve had a trip to Darwin and a six-day break so we’ve got to look after our bodies, hydrate, do the recovery and get everything right,” he said.

“(We need to) train really well during the week, and really review it and find those things that let us down.”
