Who – Jack Watts
According to Champion Data, the 2008 number one draft pick was best on ground against Adelaide last weekend, collecting 23 possessions, eight marks and kicking three goals. The dynamic forward has taken his game to another level in 2016, having kicked more goals this season then he has in the previous two years combined. Sam Collins will have the challenge of closing down this dangerous forward, which could go a long way to helping Fremantle to victory.
What – Multicultural Round
The AFL’s Multicultural Round is a celebration of the wide contribution to football from the many different communities who participate, and also celebrates the great power of Australian Rules to unite people. Fremantle’s match will be broadcast in Spanish.
When – The Bye
Fremantle are coming off the bye week, while Melbourne suffered a gruelling 23-point loss to Adelaide at the MCG on Sunday. Fremantle have won four of its last five games following a bye, and will be hoping the extra rest and the return of several key players will see this trend continue.
Talking Points
Where – A Darwin Night
Darwin’s climate will provide a great challenge to both sides, with temperatures this week forecast to hit a top of 33C. Saturday’s minimum is a predicted to drop to a more comfortable 21C, but there will be humidity and slippery conditions to contend with. The last time the teams met in Darwin, temperatures where in their low 30s, and Fremantle came away 63-point victors.
Why – This game is important
Fremantle will want to return to the good form they showed when they beat Port Adelaide, and will be looking to build momentum going into the end of the season. Ross Lyon has put the onus on his players to fight for their spots in the team.
Melbourne will be looking to capitalise on Port Adelaide’s loss to Hawthorn last night, and could over-take them on percentage if they beat Fremantle. With a finals spot just within reach for the Demons, they have extra incentive.
