Fremantle key forward Tanner Smith is set to miss six to eight weeks with a hamstring injury sustained against Port Adelaide last Saturday.
Smith hurt his hamstring in the third quarter on Saturday, but Freo high performance manager Jason Weber remains hopeful that Smith will see playing time again in 2016.
“He’ll be a couple of weeks (and) then we’ll rehab, but we do hope to get him back on the field this year.” Weber said.
Matthew Uebergang, Brady Grey and Matt de Boer also suffered injuries while playing for Peel Thunder in their 32-point loss to South Fremantle on Sunday.
Uebergang looked like a potential candidate to step up in Tanner Smith’s absence, but the rookie key position player also injured his hamstring on the weekend.
“Matt suffered a high-speed hamstring injury in the WAFL on the weekend,” he said.
“He’s having a surgical opinion this week. It’s of a significant nature so we’ll follow that through from there.”

Midfielders Brady Grey and Matt de Boer have been constant contributors for Peel Thunder so far in 2016, but Weber said both are set to miss time following incidents on Sunday.
“Brady (Grey) got his foot caught underneath him and he’s had a syndesmosis injury, so we’ll be following that through from a medical perspective,” Weber said.
“Matt de Boer was caught in a contact incident and injured the medial aspect of his knee.”
Freo making the most of adversity
Weber said despite Freo’s unfortunate run of luck with injuries, there were positives to come out of the weekend with midfielder Clancee Pearce playing well in his return from a concussion.
“Clancee did really well,” Weber said.
“He was really patient during that period (of rehab) and came out and played really well on the weekend.”
