Brownlow Medallist Nat Fyfe has been spreading his knowledge of the game to Freo’s young midfielders, according to Connor Blakely.
Blakely, who is coming off a strong performance against St Kilda in which he finished with a career-high 25 disposals said, that despite being sidelined due to injury, Fyfe continues to be a positive influence around the club.
“During the Tigers game he was helping out with my positioning and stoppages,” Blakely said.
“His knowledge of the game is really strong and he’s a Brownlow Medallist so he knows what he’s talking about.”
Blakely also praised the recent performances of Matthew Pavlich, whose leadership has played an integral role in the development of Freo’s young players.
“He’s unbelievable,” he said of Pavlich.
“Especially for the forwards, he structures (them) up and gives a bit of guidance of where to go.”
While the key forward only managed one goal against the Saints in round 10, Blakely said it has been the little details that have made Pavlich such a positive contributor to the team.
“He played a really good game for us,” he said.
“(It’s) the kind of stuff you don’t see on the (TV) screen like the shepherding and tackling that he was really strong with.
“Everyone at the club holds him in such high regard and he’s someone that deserves that respect.”
