Fremantle captain David Mundy said his team was prepared for the “significant challenge” that presents itself as Freo prepare to play Hawthorn at Aurora Stadium on Saturday.

Hawthorn have made Tasmania a home away from home, winning 16 of their past 17 matches when making the trip to the Apple isle, and Mundy said their potency as a team is only increased at the venue.

“It’s a really significant challenge,” Mundy said.

“History proves they’re a fantastic side obviously, but especially down in Tasmania and obviously we don’t get the exposure (to Aurora Stadium) that they do.

“It’s a fantastic challenge and I’m sure the boys will be up for it.”

Pearce backs it up for Peel

The football world was shocked when Hawthorn were on the receiving end of a 75-point loss at the hands of GWS in round six, but responded strongly by defeating Richmond by 46 points the following week.

The Hawks bounce back from their disappointing performance shouldn’t come as a surprise, according to Mundy, who said that’s what premiership winning sides do.

“They’ve been a great side for a long time now,” he said.

“You don’t win three premierships in a row by rolling over two weeks in a row.

“We know they’ll be a really focused and determined group and it’s up to us to match that.”

Mundy said matching Hawthorn will mean winning the ball, retaining possession and keeping it locked in the forward half.

“In any game it’s really important to win the ball, win the contest and get your body over the football, and that certainly applies to Hawthorn,” he said.

“We’ll need to use our spares, spread the ball, really try to own it, and keep it solidified in our forward half.”
