Fremantle Dockers captain David Mundy was adamant that Freo wouldn’t trial players out of position as a knee-jerk reaction to their disappointing start to the 2016 season.
Mundy said it was important for coaches and playing group to remain diligent with their approach to the game plan.
“I’m not sure (we’re at) the point to just throw (players around) willy nilly and try things out of the blue,” Mundy said.
“We have a detailed system and we’re really diligent with that.
“We’ll try to stick to our system and work through this difficult period.”
Captain returns with confidence
While Fremantle have conceded more points under the new game plan than previous years, Mundy said it would be a disservice to apportion blame to Freo’s back line.
“I don’t think we can single out our back line in particular,” he said.
“We understand that it’s a whole team approach to defence and offence.
“If the mids and forwards can really pressure the ball carrier then it will really help (the defenders) out.”
Talking points: Rd 6 v Adelaide
While Mundy said last week’s loss to Carlton was obviously disappointing, Freo’s resolve or mentality hasn’t been compromised.
The skipper also said there were positives to take out of the contest, and Freo just needing to bring it all together for four quarters.
“Last week was obviously disappointing, but I’m not sure it was any more disappointing that the other losses,” he said.
“It’s never nice to lose, especially at home.
“But we’re not flat or battling mentally.
“Last week our effort and attack around the ball was a real improvement.”
