Fremantle Dockers senior coach Ross Lyon will be at the helm for the 100th time for Freo, in this Saturday’s Carlton Draught derby against the West Coast Eagles.
Since joining the Freo in 2011, Lyon holds an impressive 68 per cent winning record and coached the Dockers to their maiden Grand Final appearance in 2013.
Despite the achievement of reaching 100 games as coach, Freo defender and leadership group member Michael Johnson said he knows exactly what to expect from Lyon this weekend.
“It’s fantastic to hear, but he’s just about going out this week and getting the four points,” Johnson said.
The business like approach to a milestone game is exactly what Johnson has come to expect of Lyon, who he said has been a key figure in elevating his game as a player.
“He’s been fantastic,” he said.
“Going into the back line, he has faith in me to play my role for the team.
“I’ve played my best footy under him so he’s been great for me, and you can also see that in other players.”
A veteran of 129 games as player for Fitzroy and Brisbane and 220 games as a senior coach, Lyon’s experience has delivered a philosophy that has permeated through the club, according to Johnson.
“You listen to him because he’s been around the business for such a long time,” he said.
“He has a lot of knowledge as a player and a coach.
“It’s all about being consistent and giving great effort, week in and week out.
“That’s what we want from all players that come into the team.”
