Fremantle Coach Ross Lyon praised the continued growth of key defender Alex Pearce as he nears his return to senior football.
Pearce was having a strong summer until a groin injury curtailed his lead up to round one, but is poised to return to senior football through the WAFL, according to Ross Lyon.
“Pearce will return but he’ll play through Peel Thunder,” Lyon said.
“As much as he had an interrupted pre-season, he’s actually going really well.”
While Pearce impressed as a key defender in his debut season, Lyon said the 2015 Beacon Award winner wouldn’t just be limited to a defensive role.
“He can play at either end,” he said.
“Predominantly he’s been a defender so we think that’s his best spot.
“But he gives us some life and keeps some pressure on our young talls.”
Lyon said Pearce’s physical development continues to be a reason for confidence heading into 2016.
“He’s grown a little bit more, and is at 200cm,” he said.
“He’s very quick, very agile and we’re pleased that he continues to grow.
“He’s certainly very capable.”
