For the Hill family, there will be joy and agony after Friday night’s Preliminary Final.
One son, either Freo’s Stephen Hill or Hawthorn’s Bradley Hill, will be part of a winning team that will play in the AFL Grand Final the following Saturday.
The other will be bitterly disappointed.
The brothers are no strangers on the field but their match-up at Domain Stadium will cement their spot in VFL/AFL history.
It will be just the second time a set of brothers have played against each other twice in a VFL/AFL final.
Craig (North Melbourne) and Brad Sholl (Geelong) were opponents in finals in 1996 and 1997.
The Hills faced off in the 2013 Grand Final, which Bradley’s team won.
Hawks an "offensive juggernaut"
Bradley has two premierships with Hawthorn, a feat that Stephen said spurred him for the ultimate success.
“My brother’s won a couple of premierships and seeing him have them just drives me even more,” Hill said earlier this month.
“Maybe a little bit (jealous), but I’m proud of him as well.
“It just really drives me to hopefully be able to get there and have a premiership one day.”
