Fremantle senior coach Ross Lyon has confirmed six players who will not play against Port Adelaide in Saturday’s final home and away game.

Veterans Matthew Pavlich, Luke McPharlin, Aaron Sandilands and David Mundy will not make the trip to Adelaide Oval.

While Lyon also confirmed Stephen Hill and Lee Spurr would be rested.

Who's in the mix to face Port?

Fremantle announced on Monday that up to 11 players who played in Sunday’s 54-point win over Melbourne may be rested for the round 23 fixture.

Lyon said on Tuesday a final decision on who would be rested was still under consideration.

“There is a definite six who won’t play,” he said.

“From there we are still working it out, which will take all week.”

Lyon said the decision on which players would be rested was a combination of reasons.

“There is a fair bit of age in that, wear and tear and lots of minutes,” he said.

“Sometimes it’s about the total minutes (played), as opposed to games.

“From there we have a few to work through.”

Others in the mix for rest are Michael Johnson, Nick Suban and Chris Mayne.

Cam Sutcliffe is set to miss with his dislocated shoulder although Lyon said he would be available for the first final.

Flexibility forward

Lyon said resting players was no guarantee for success.

“At the end of the day, the buck stops with me,” he said.

“We’re planning and preparing, trying to give ourselves the best chance for the end game, which is playing our best footy in the finals series.

“It’s been done before, if you lose you get criticised, if you win you’re a genius.”

Lyon said Michael Walters, who missed last week’s game against Melbourne with a calf injury, would not play.
